UAE Media Council emphasizes readiness for digital media opportunities

    January 14, 2025

Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Office and the UAE Media Council, underscored the transformative power of digital media in shaping the future of societies, emphasizing its potential to drive progress and its inherent challenges. Speaking at the 1 Billion Followers Summit 2025, Al Hamed urged stakeholders to adopt proactive strategies to maximize the opportunities digital media presents while mitigating its risks.

Al Hamed participated in a session titled “Content Creators: A Double-Edged Sword?” moderated by journalist Ammar Taqi. The session was part of the three-day event held across prominent locations in Dubai, including Emirates Towers, Dubai International Financial Centre, and the Museum of the Future. Organized by the UAE Government Media Office under the theme “Content for Good,” the summit has brought together over 15,000 content creators, 420 speakers, and 125 global executives, positioning it as the world’s largest gathering dedicated to the content creation economy.

“Digital media opens unprecedented horizons for transformative social change, enabling us to raise awareness, promote positivity, and share universal human values,” Al Hamed said. He highlighted the dual nature of digital advancements, describing them as a double-edged sword that demands readiness to address the risks posed by rapidly evolving technologies and content creation practices.

He stressed the necessity of strategic planning to ensure that this transformation contributes positively to societal well-being while preserving cultural identity and values. “The future will not permit isolation. It is imperative to think now about how to engage constructively with this evolution,” Al Hamed remarked.

Al Hamed also praised the UAE’s leadership in digital media, noting the country’s early recognition of the sector’s significance and its strategic efforts to harness digital platforms for economic and developmental gains. He highlighted the UAE’s commitment to maintaining a balance between innovation and addressing the societal challenges posed by the digital era.

“The UAE’s forward-thinking approach ensures its leadership in shaping the future of this vital sector,” he said, pointing to the summit as a testament to the nation’s dedication to leveraging digital media for global benefit. He emphasized the importance of fostering a sustainable digital content ecosystem, echoing the summit’s theme of using content as a force for good.

In his remarks, Al Hamed called for a collective effort among governments, private sector stakeholders, institutions, and content creators to manage the rapid digital transformation responsibly. He emphasized the need for governments to empower meaningful content creators, while institutions and investors should support innovative startups in the media landscape.

Al Hamed warned of the dangers of misinformation, urging audiences to recognize reliable sources and support ethical content. “Supporting good content is no longer a luxury but a necessity. Combating the spread of misinformation is a shared responsibility that requires awareness and collaboration across all levels of society,” he stated.

He concluded by acknowledging the global shift driven by digital media and reiterated the urgency of preparing to navigate this transformation effectively. “The pace of development waits for no one. We must act swiftly and decisively to embrace the opportunities while addressing the challenges ahead.” – By MENA Newswire News Desk.
